The DILETTA TDR 700 Reader quickly and accurately processes Electronic and Machine Readable Travel Documents (eMRTD) of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Standards.
- High performance
The DILETTA TDR 700 Reader was developed especially for high reading performance (only one second for OCR text and two seconds for IC data) combined with reliability and durability. 1)
- Compact and efficient
Ideal for modern applications thanks to compact modular design, low weight and high reliability. DILETTA's many years of experience and state-of-the-art image-processing technology guarantee cost-effective performance.
- Lay-on type
The user simply puts the machine-readable travel document on the glass surface of the reader. The machine-readable zone (MRZ) is transmitted within seconds.
- Integrated reader for simple installation
The reader can be connected directly via the USB or RS-232-C 2) interface with your PC or terminal.

Machine Readable Passport for a "boundless" world
The high international travel volume can be dated back to 1960 when the first high-volume aircraft was produced. Until now many border controls have been carried out manually and visually. Thus it is not surprising that the growth of passenger traffic has led to an overloading of passport control facilities.
In order to increase input and output speeds, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has developed a standard for machine-readable travel documents (MRTD). In 1980 the ICAO issued guidelines for the design and use of MRP's for its member states. (ICAO Document 9304, 1980 Edition and ISO/DIS 7501, 1983 Edition).
Illustration 1 shows the layout of a machine-readable passport (MRP).

Why MRP control is essential
The issue of MRP's alone is not sufficient to modernize antiquated border controls. The benefits of an ePassport can only be achieved by using MRP control systems at the border points. The key component in every control system is the ePassport reader.
A control system with a fast, high-precision MRP reader enables:
- efficient and effective border controls
- faster control of visitors
- safety controls for airlines
- improved recognition of forged passports
Faster Reading - One second for OCR and two seconds for IC data
Holder's data and photograph are captured in 0.1 seconds, with processed data output in approx. 1 second. IC data from conventional ePassport is read in 2 seconds. Since conventional ePassport readers require a PC to process OCR and BAC data, their processing time depends on the PC performance. DILETTA ePassport Readers come with embedded circutry to handle OCR and BAC processing,
Simple Handling
Laying the ICAO document on the glass of the TDR700 triggers the scanning procedure. The ergonomic construction of the device guarantees that the document is correctly placed. Recognition is completed in the shortest possible time and the data read is transmitted to the PC.
ePassport Control in Seconds
Only about 3 seconds1) are required for scanning, OCR and IC recognition, data transmission and monitor display.
The DILETTA TDR700 is the way to perfect border control. DILETTA offers you the TDR700 reader as an individual unit or in combination with a PC adjusted to customer's requirement.
Passport Inspection
The TDR700 ICAO reader supports passport inspection under three different light sources:
- daylight
- UV-light (ultraviolet)
- IR-light (infra-red)
It is the perfect tool to check the variable holder's UV colour information printed with a DILETTA passport printer or special ultraviolet features of a security laminate or paper.
